The Maldives Police Service has signed agreements with three state-owned enterprises to develop 75 police facilities across the country.
The contracts were awarded to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Fenaka Corporation, and Road Development Corporation (RDC) during an official signing ceremony.
This initiative is part of the largest infrastructure project in the 91-year history of the Maldives Police Force. The project was officially inaugurated on March 13, with the final agreement signed the same day.
According to the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, Fenaka Corporation has been awarded 40 projects, RDC will undertake 20, and MTCC will handle 15.
This development aims to strengthen law enforcement infrastructure, particularly in 70 islands that previously lacked a police presence. As of November 17, 2023, the country had only 17 dedicated police stations.
This initiative is expected to enhance security, improve police response times, and optimise operations. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has prioritised expanding police presence, ensuring every inhabited island has a dedicated facility.
Once completed, the project will establish regional and atoll-level headquarters, island police stations, police posts, and officer accommodation, improving efficiency and service delivery nationwide.
