Ahmed Nareesh, who recently resigned as Deputy Mayor of Malé City, has been appointed as an advisor to the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts at the ministerial level.

Nareesh will serve as an advisor to Youth Minister Ibrahim Waheed, the Presidential Office confirmed to MMTV through Chief Spokesperson Heena Waleed.

He previously represented the Maafannu Central constituency on the Malé City Council. Announcing his resignation last week, Nareesh said he had received an opportunity to serve the country in a new capacity.

Following his departure, Nareesh stated that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has demonstrated the ability to work across political lines to achieve rapid progress, bringing positive change to Malé City.

The Malé City Council accepted Nareesh’s resignation and commended his contributions. In a letter, Mayor Adam Azim expressed gratitude for his dedication and service as deputy mayor.

Following Nareesh’s resignation, Mohamed Areesh, a member of the Progressive National Congress (PNC) representing Maafannu Western North, was elected as deputy mayor.
