The Ministry of Education has assigned three state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to complete unfinished work at schools across 19 islands.

During a special ceremony at the Ministry of Education, the projects were entrusted to Fenaka Corporation, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), and Road Development Corporation (RDC).

Fenaka Corporation will handle school projects on 12 islands, including Haa Dhaalu Vaikaradhoo, Thaa Veymandoo, Faafu Bilehdhoo, and Baa Goidhoo.

MTCC has been tasked with completing unfinished work at schools in Raa Ungoofaaru, Haa Alifu Uligan, Kaafu Maafushi, and Vaavu Fulidhoo.

Meanwhile, RDC will oversee projects at two schools: Haa Alifu Filladhoo and Raa Hulhudhuffaaru.

Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu signed the agreements on behalf of the Ministry of Education. MTCC's Managing Director, retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Ahmed Saudhy, signed for his company, while Fenaka Corporation’s Managing Director, Mohamed Najah, signed on behalf of his corporation. RDC was represented by its Managing Director, retired Brigadier General Ali Zuhair.

The previous government budgeted for and launched these projects without proper planning, leaving the current administration with numerous unfinished projects and no completion strategy.

During recent visits to various islands, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced that these stalled projects would recommence soon. He noted that one of the main reasons for the lack of progress under the previous government was the awarding of contracts to unsuitable companies. He also stated that, to ensure continuous progress, unfinished work would be assigned to SOEs already established on those islands for various projects.

The Government continues to prioritise and advance numerous projects that were initiated but stalled under the previous administration.
