Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has notified Jaah Investment Private Limited of the termination of their agreement and ordered the handover of the property, after granting multiple extensions to complete construction of the flats under "The Gardens" project, which began in 2017.

The final deadline to complete the apartments, under construction for more than seven years, was January 27 this year. In a statement, HDC announced that the agreement had been terminated, and that the property must be handed over, as work was not completed by the expiration of the final legal notice period given to Jaah.

HDC stated that this measure was taken to facilitate the prompt handover of apartments to buyers who have already made payments. They further noted that following the agreement’s termination, information on plans to complete the project will be shared with those who have purchased apartments.

In January, Shunana & Co, a law firm representing affected buyers, sent a letter to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu requesting a resolution for the delayed completion of Jaah's flats. The letter highlighted that many buyers have suffered losses due to negligence by companies involved in housing projects assigned by HDC.

HDC has reiterated that it will take necessary legal action against parties that violate agreements related to various projects in Hulhumalé.
