First Lady condemns attack on MDP activist

First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed has condemned the assault on Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) activist Mariyam Zubair. The incident occurred on Sunday night, when two masked individuals splashed black oil on the opposition activist on Majeedhee Magu.

Addressing the incident on X, First Lady Sajidha Mohamed condemned the attack, adding that such attacks and harassment are completely unacceptable. She called on everyone to avoice escalating tension and to allow judicial process to be facilitated.

This incident comes amid heightened political friction, after the First Lady announced plans to file a civil suit against MDP, its chairman Fayyaz Ismail, and activist Mariyam Zubair regarding derogatory comments involving the First Family during a MDP rally. Following the incident, the First Lady issued a statement refuting the allegations against her 16-year-old son, calling the remarks politically motivated. In her statement shared by her legal counsel Uza Azima Shukoor, the First Lady called for greater accountability and urged all parties to respect the dignity and rights of children.
