Ahmed Imad has resigned as the Deputy Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

Imad’s resignation comes amid Parliament committee’s recommendation to remove him from post. However, Imad submitted his resignation before the session. In his resignation letter, he described his role as a "dignified job" and highlighted his work on foreign exchange laws and regulations.

A complaint against Imad alleged that he did not take necessary action while former MMA Governor Ali Hashim failed to perform his duties. Parliament had already removed Hashim from his role in July last year for not addressing the country’s economic crisis.

Imad was appointed Deputy Governor in 2020, a position that requires the President’s approval based on Parliament’s recommendation.
