Lhaviyani Atoll is set to introduce printing and issuance of ID card services as part of the broader initiative to expand the service across the nation.

The Department of National Registration (DNR) and the Lhaviyani Atoll Council have formalised the agreement to enable the council office to facilitate the service. 

According to DNR, this initiative is adds to the Government’s efforts to decentralise essential services and make it more accessible to the citizens. At present, ID card printing and issuance services are offered in 13 islands outside of Kaafu atoll, with efforts underway to extend coverage further. 

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu previously outlined a vision to establish ID card printing and issuance services in every atoll of the Maldives by the end of this year. This initiative is expected to enhance convenience for citizens, reducing the need to travel to Malé for such services.
