The Maldives Zakat House has received MVR 2.9 million in Zakat Al-Fitr during the first 10 days of Ramadan, marking a record increase compared to previous years.

According to statistics released by the organisation, the amount collected represents an 81.9 per cent increase from the same period last year and a 198 per cent increase compared to four years ago in 2021.

The figures show a consistent rise in Zakat Al-Fitr contributions over the past five years. In 2021, MVR 0.97 million was collected, followed by MVR 1.09 million in 2022, MVR 1.39 million in 2023, MVR 1.6 million in 2024, and MVR 2.9 million in 2025.

Zakat House has announced that Zakat Al-Fitr payments can be made through Bandeyri Pay and FahiPay until the last day of Ramadan. However, for those using other online payment platforms such as Dhiraagu App, Dhiraagu Pay, Ooredoo M-Faisaa, Maldives Islamic Bank application, and Bank of Maldives mobile application, the deadline is 6 AM on the 27th of Ramadan.

For senior citizens and individuals unfamiliar with online payments, Zakat Al-Fitr can be paid in person at the Islamic Centre, while island and city councils have also arranged for cash payments. Meanwhile, the collection of Zakat on grains is set to begin on Saturday, as announced by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.

The Maldives Zakat House, established under the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, aims to strengthen the Zakat system and develop the Zakat Fund. Since its inception, statistics indicate significant progress in Zakat collection and management. Alongside Zakat Al-Fitr, Zakat Al-Mal contributions have also seen a sharp rise. According to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), the 2024 Zakat Al-Mal collection reached MVR 101.9 million, the highest in the country’s history.
