The Parliament of the Maldives has formally approved the revised mandates for three key ministries, following structural changes proposed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

During Tuesday’s parliamentary session, lawmakers voted in favour of the President’s proposed restructuring, which entails the renaming and redefinition of ministerial responsibilities.

The revisions primarily impact the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, as well as the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

As part of these structural reforms, the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development has been dissolved, with its functions redistributed between the Ministry of Finance and Planning and the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure. Furthermore, the environmental affairs portfolio has been integrated into the Ministry of Tourism.

The revised mandates were ratified with the support of 50 lawmakers.
