As the world marks the International Day of Happiness today, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has emphasised that true happiness is best achieved through shared experiences and unity rather than individual pursuit.

“The pursuit of happiness is not an individual journey, but a collective one, for it is through shared humanity that we truly find lasting joy,” stated President Dr Muizzu in an X post.

In the Maldives, the Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works has organised various activities to commemorate the occasion. These include the distribution of gift packs, commemorative cards, and congratulatory messages, along with the release of special video content to spread awareness on the value of happiness and togetherness.

Further solidifying the nation's commitment to well-being, the Government officially launched its "Happiness Index" on February 2, 2025. This initiative, which has been in development since May 2024, aims to systematically assess and improve the overall well-being of Maldivian citizens.

Established by the United Nations in 2012, the International Day of Happiness highlights the importance of happiness and well-being as fundamental human aspirations. On July 12, 2012, the UN General Assembly adopted resolution 66/281, officially designating March 20, as a day to promote these values.
