The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has made significant progress on the Shaviyani Komandoo Shore Protection Rectification Works and Mathi Komandoo Connectivity Project, with the completion of a major phase of coastal protection efforts.
MTCC announced via X that the geobag revetment installation for the shore protection project has now been completed.
The land reclamation and connectivity project, valued at over MVR 249 million, is a transformative development aimed at addressing housing shortages, expanding land allocation, and creating new opportunities for the people of Komandoo.
The project involves the reclamation of 174,384 square meters of land from Mathi Komandoo, which will be connected to Komandoo via a 200-metre concrete bridge.
In addition to land reclamation, extensive shore protection measures are being implemented to safeguard the reclaimed areas. These include 1,151 metres of revetment, 135 metres of geobag revetment, and 54 metres of groyne works.
