The Government has reversed its previous decision restricting Aasandha coverage for individuals with private insurance, now permitting the simultaneous use of both insurance policies.

As part of Aasandha reforms introduced in November last year, a policy was enacted requiring individuals to fully utilise their private insurance coverage before becoming eligible for Aasandha benefits. However, Aasandha Pvt Ltd has now revised this regulation, reinstating dual insurance coverage for medical consultations.

According to Aasandha, under the revised policy, private insurance will be billed primarily for consultations, with Aasandha covering any remaining costs. This amendment aims to reduce financial burdens on patients and improve access to healthcare services.

Concerns had previously been raised regarding the financial strain imposed on individuals under the former policy, particularly for outpatient treatments. While Aasandha coverage remained available for hospital admissions, outpatients were required to cover expenses not included in their private insurance plans.

Discussions are currently underway to expand dual insurance coverage to other non-admitted treatments; however, an official timeline for implementation has not yet been announced.
