Meemu Atoll Muli Airport is approaching completion, with the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) confirming that construction of the terminal building and fire station is in its final stages.
In an official update shared on the company’s X account, MTCC announced that finishing work on both structures is currently in progress, with approximately 87 per cent of the project now completed.
The Muli Airport development project was formally signed on February 28, 2021. As part of the initiative, 14 hectares of land are being reclaimed, a 1,200-metre-long and 30-metre-wide runway is under construction, and 1,812 metres of coastline will be reinforced to ensure long-term protection. The Government has allocated MVR 221.7 million for the project, which was originally initiated under the previous administration.
