The Maldives Health Professionals Union (MHPU) has welcomed the latest amendment to the Public Service Pay Framework, calling it a significant step forward in the effort to safeguard the rights and benefits of health workers.
In a statement released on Thursday, the MHPU said the changes mark one of the most meaningful outcomes of its advocacy efforts since 2023. The 7th Amendment to the Public Service Pay Framework introduces positive revisions to the overtime payment system, particularly for employees required to work during the last ten days of Ramadan.
The union praised the Government's move to formally recognise this period as official holidays under the Employment Act, ensuring that health workers and other essential service providers receive enhanced compensation. Workers reporting for duty during this time will receive a daily attendance benefit and an additional allowance equal to two-thirds of the standard holiday duty pay.
The MHPU concluded by reaffirming its commitment to continue advocating for the welfare of all health professionals and ensuring the protection of their rights across the Maldives.
