The Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works has begun preparations to light up islands across the Maldives for Eid Al-Fitr, continuing a festive initiative that was launched nationwide last year.
According to the Ministry, Eid lights will be sent to 36 islands, including two of the most populous islands in each atoll, expanding on the number of islands that participated last year.
Speaking to MMTV, Minister Adam Shareef Umar confirmed that the lights will be shipped to all designated islands by March 24, with work already underway to coordinate deliveries and installations.
The Eid Ali initiative, which began in Malé City during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s tenure as Mayor, received a highly positive response, prompting the decision to extend it to islands across the country.
A special Eid lighting ceremony to mark the occasion will be held on March 29 at Central Park in Hulhumalé, where the lights will be switched on across the nation in celebration of Eid.
