Ten foreign nationals arrested for drug smuggling in the Maldives

The Maldives Police Service has apprehended ten foreign nationals for allegedly attempting to smuggle seven kilograms of narcotics into the country via maritime routes.

The individuals, comprising seven Indian and three Indonesian nationals, were taken into custody and subsequently presented before a local court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

The following individuals have been identified as those taken into custody in connection with the alleged smuggling attempt:

  • Ganesh Bonmali, 22 (India)
  • Peter Winnie, 28 (India)
  • Prabhakarana Nagarajan, 35 (India)
  • Adriansya, 25 (Indonesia)
  • Mohammad Iqbal Makmur, 30 (Indonesia)
  • Datkile Darshan Vijay, 22 (India)
  • Saran Padman, 26 (India)
  • Naswan Adil, 30 (Indonesia)
  • Romans Santhia Fernando, 58 (India)
  • Govsik Raj James Knox, 30 (India)

Following their arrest, the accused individuals were presented before a local court, which determined the duration of their judicial remand as follows:

  • Mohammad Iqbal Makmur, Adriansya, Prabhakarana Nagarajan, Peter Winnie, and Ganesh Bonmali were remanded in judicial custody for five days.
  • Saran Padman, Naswan Adil, Govsik Raj James Knox, and Romans Santhia Fernando were remanded for a period of one day.
