The Baa Atoll Council has initiated an ambitious endeavour to establish a new world record for the highest number of individuals diving simultaneously.

In pursuit of this objective, the council formalised a partnership with Freedive Maldives through an official agreement signed on Thursday.

The agreement was executed by Council President Ahmed Afrah, representing the council, while Fahad Faiz signed on behalf of Freedive Maldives.

The record-breaking dive is scheduled to take place on October 3, in conjunction with World Tourism Day. The event, titled 'Baani', aspires to assemble over 1,000 divers, striving to secure B. Atoll’s place in the world record books.

The dive will be conducted in the Angafaru area of the atoll, with participation open to residents of B. Atoll, resort guests, and individuals from across the country. This initiative not only aims to achieve global recognition but also seeks to promote B. Atoll as a premier tourist destination while fostering awareness of marine conservation.

The Maldives’ most recent world record in free diving was set in 2019, when over 600 divers participated in an event at Baros Lagoon in Malé Atoll.

With the forthcoming Baani event, the B. Atoll Council endeavours to surpass this achievement.
