Government oversees nationwide preparations for Eid-ul-Fitr

The Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, has reviewed the preparations for Eid-ul-Fitr, focusing on the distribution of festive lights across the country.
As part of the initiative, 36 islands have already received Eid lights. This year, in addition to the islands that participated in last year’s celebrations, two additional islands in each atoll will be included. Eid lights were installed across Male’ last night, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
During his visit, the minister inspected various sites where Eid light installations were underway. He also assessed the progress of staff working on the sound system setup, ensuring all arrangements were in place for the upcoming celebrations.
The large-scale Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations were initially introduced in Male’ City during the tenure of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu as mayor. Following its success, the initiative has been expanded nationwide under his leadership.
Ahmed Nareesh, an advisor at the Ministry of Youth, stated that efforts are being made to extend the project beyond Male’ City to a wider area of the Maldives for this Eid. This year, a total of 65 islands will have Eid lights installed as part of the expanded programme.
The main Eid-ul-Fitr festivities are set to take place at Hulhumale’ Central Park on 29 May. According to the ministry, President Dr Muizzu is expected to attend the event, reinforcing the Government's commitment to broadening national celebrations.
