At the official ceremony marking the Government's first year in office, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu reaffirmed his Government's commitment to addressing past mismanagement and fulfilling the expectations of the Maldivian people.
During this ceremony, President Dr Muizzu expressed concerns regarding the fiscal decisions made by the previous government and assured the public that his Government is dedicated to avoiding such fiscal mishaps.
The President disclosed that when he assumed office, there were outstanding public funds of MVR 16 billion. He emphasised that this Administration has successfully recovered MVR 2.6 billion of these funds over the past year. The President also addressed the unfavourable agreements made by the previous government and his Administration's commitment to terminate them and prioritise the prosperity of the Maldivian people.
President Dr Muizzu reported that the Government has cleared MVR 250 million in dues to fishermen and distributed over MVR 1 million by November 2024. He highlighted progress in critical land reclamation initiatives, with Gulhifalhu advancing from 44 per cent to 70 per cent completion. Similarly, Hulhumalé phase 3 progressed from 17 per cent to 38 per cent, while Giraavarufalhu advanced from 19 per cent to 38 per cent, with completion expected within six months.
President Dr Muizzu emphasised the Government's commitment to transparency and fairness regarding housing and land allocation. He assured citizens that only fraudulent allocations would be revoked, while legally acquired properties would remain secure. The President announced plans to allocate 4,000 flats through clear criteria and a point system, overseen by the Ministry of Housing.
Whilst acknowledging that only 44 per cent of planned initiatives were completed this year, President Dr Muizzu expressed confidence in his Administration's ability to deliver key projects and maintain its dedication to the Maldivian people's prosperity.
