The Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, has stated that festive lights for Eid al-Fitr celebrations will be dispatched to atolls today and tomorrow.

In an interview with MMTV, Minister Adam Shareef provided an update on the nationwide Eid illumination project, stating that preparations had already begun in Malé City.

“We are now working on sending lights to the atolls. There are two shipments, which will be sent to various islands today or tomorrow. By the time the deadline approaches, these items will be received, and installation can begin,” he said.

The Minister noted that during previous Eid celebrations, festive lights were sent to 24 islands, including all atoll capitals except Malé and other cities. This year, in addition to each atoll’s capital, the two most populated islands in each atoll will also receive festive lights, he said.

The Minister added that the initiative has been met with great enthusiasm from the public.
