Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, has announced that the Government is drafting a special regulation aimed at increasing public participation in development projects.

In an exclusive interview with MMTV, the Minister stated that the Ministry is holding discussions with island and city councils to identify ways to strengthen the decentralisation system. A meeting is scheduled for next month, with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), where these issues will be further discussed.

The Minister noted that a policy paper is currently being prepared, and a special rule will be formulated to encourage greater community involvement in Government-led initiatives.

Additionally, the Minister added that the rule will be made public soon and will apply to all projects carried out by the Ministry, including the construction of 55 council buildings and the development of children’s parks.
