The Government is expanding dialysis services to more islands, with Noonu Atoll Velidhoo set to receive the service next month, Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim announced in an interview with MMTV.
Chronic kidney disease is a growing concern in the Maldives, with many patients requiring regular dialysis. The lack of local facilities has forced some individuals to travel long distances or even relocate to access treatment.
Under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s leadership, efforts are underway to establish dialysis centres in more regions. Recent expansions include new services in Ihavandhoo and increased capacity in Noonu Atoll. Plans are also in place to introduce dialysis services in Villingili.
President Dr Muizzu has pledged to ensure that each atoll has a main hospital providing dialysis services at a level comparable to Malé. Health experts believe that the Government’s policies will significantly improve healthcare accessibility and bring transformative changes to the system.
