President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Ahmed Mausoom as the Director of Maldivian Blood Services, fulfilling a key presidential pledge. Mausoom, a management expert with experience at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, will lead efforts to enhance blood services in the country.
The Health Ministry has also announced plans to appoint two deputy directors general and two directors in the coming days.
In response to public concerns over service quality at the Thalassaemia Centre, President Dr Muizzu recently visited the facility and instructed authorities to take immediate action. He highlighted the absence of a Director General since the administration of President Abdulla Yameen and committed to providing the necessary human resources to improve services to hospital standards.
The Health Ministry is currently recruiting a physician, five nurses, and administrative staff to strengthen operations at the centre. Additionally, the President has decided to oversee the centre’s progress directly to ensure swift improvements.
