Government companies and civic bodies are gearing up to host a spectacular Eid-ul-Fitr celebration across the city, promising a vibrant and immersive experience for residents and visitors alike. With festivities planned in three key locations, the city is set to come alive with colour, culture, and excitement.
Eid celebrations are taking place nationwide, and special efforts are being made to ensure Malé enjoys a truly memorable occasion. To bring this vision to life, the Ministry of Defence, in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, the Maldives National Defence Force(MNDF), and the Maldives Police Services, has meticulously planned an event filled with energy and entertainment. Scheduled from 4 pm to 6 pm, the celebrations will offer a dynamic programme designed to bring people together in the spirit of joy and unity.
The festivities will be spread across three major venues—Sultan Park, infront of Shaheedhunge Binaa (Martyrs Memorial), and Jumhooree Maidhaan(Republic Square)—each set to transform into a hub of activity, seamlessly blending tradition with modernity. Attendees can look forward to a rich showcase of the nation’s customs, presented by various companies, while traditional games played by locals will offer a nostalgic glimpse into the past. At the same time, contemporary performances will introduce a fresh, dynamic twist, ensuring a diverse and engaging experience for all.
Adding to the excitement, MNDF and the police will provide visitors with the unique opportunity to board their vehicles and take photographs. Military enthusiasts will also get a rare chance to see heavy machinery up close and witness thrilling drills conducted by the forces. Complementing these attractions, band performances and silent drill displays will create a striking visual and auditory spectacle, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
For those looking for interactive entertainment, the Ministry of Sports has planned a variety of engaging activities. Gaming stalls, a fusion show, and an array of water sports at umhooree Maidhaan will cater to a wide audience, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy.
A host of major organisations, including Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO), Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), State Trading Organisation (STO), Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), and Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), will be actively participating in the event. Working alongside the Maldives Police Service, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), and the Ministry of Sports, these organisations are set to deliver a well-coordinated and unforgettable celebration that reflects the nation’s festive spirit.
Beyond Malé, through the Eid Ali initiative, islands and atolls across the Maldives will be illuminated with festive lighting, creating a vibrant atmosphere for Eid celebrations. To keep the festive momentum going, authorities have also announced that preparations for Eid-ul-Adha will commence on Saturday, ensuring a joyous atmosphere for Eid-ul-Fitr.
