The Maldives has strongly condemned Israel’s decision to establish an agency overseeing the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and the legalisation of 13 settlement outposts in the occupied West Bank.
In a statement issued on March 25, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the move a serious violation of international law and United Nations resolutions. The Government denounced the forced displacement of Palestinians, warning that settlement expansion undermines peace efforts and threatens Palestinian rights and dignity.
The Maldives urged the international community to take immediate action to safeguard civilians and work towards ending the ongoing violence in Gaza. It also reaffirmed its unwavering support for Palestinian statehood, advocating for a two-state solution based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The United Nations has consistently declared Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territories illegal under international law, with Security Council Resolution 2334 explicitly condemning their expansion.
