Efforts to strengthen police services in the Maldives took a significant step forward today with the signing of agreements to establish police stations on eight more islands.
The agreements, formalised at a ceremony held at Iskandhar Building, involve three companies tasked with carrying out the construction work.
As part of this initiative, the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been contracted to build police stations on six islands, while Fenaka Corporation and Road Development Corporation (RDC) will be responsible for developing police facilities on one island each. This latest agreement follows an earlier arrangement signed on March 13, under which MTCC and RDC committed to constructing police stations in 21 islands, while Fenaka Corporation took on projects in 41 islands.
With the agreements signed today, a total of 83 islands will see the establishment of police stations under the broader effort to enhance law enforcement presence nationwide. The project encompasses the development of police stations at regional and atoll levels, alongside infrastructure for rural policing, police posts, and accommodation blocks for officers.
The agreements were signed on behalf of the Maldives Police Service by Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau. Representing MTCC was CEO and Managing Director Ahmed Saudhy, while RDC’s Managing Director, Brigadier General (Retd) Ali Zuhair, signed on behalf of his company. Fenaka Corporation was represented by its Managing Director, Major (Retd) Mohamed Najah.
The expansion aligns with the Government's objective to ensure that police services are available on every inhabited island by the end of the year. This goal was highlighted in President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s Presidential Address to parliament, where he emphasised the importance of strengthening law enforcement accessibility across the country.
