The Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure has confirmed that 25 per cent of the harbour development project in Uligamu, located in North Thiladhunmathi, has been completed.
According to the ministry, ongoing work includes constructing the embankment's groundwater system as part of the larger development plan. The project involves filling a total area of 10,400 cubic metres from a previously filled lake. Additionally, 46,181 cubic metres of embankment will be developed, while 21,708 cubic metres of water will be filled. To strengthen the infrastructure, an outer fencing structure spanning 238 metres will be installed, along with a 180-metre revetment to reinforce the embankment.
The contract for this development was awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) on 18 July 2023. The initiative, aimed at enhancing and protecting the island’s coastline, is valued at MVR 79.8 million.
