President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has highlighted ongoing efforts to reduce the prices of fruits and vegetables in the country.
Speaking during a podcast organised by the President's Office, titled Rayyithunnaa Eku, he outlined various initiatives aimed at improving food security and making fresh produce more affordable.
Addressing public concerns about health and nutrition, the President explained that the Government's strategy includes increasing domestic production of fruits and vegetables. By shifting reliance from imports to local cultivation, the Administration aims to ensure sufficient food supply while also reducing costs for consumers.
In addition to boosting local agricultural output, the President noted that the State Trading Organisation (STO), the primary importer of such goods, will continue its role in ensuring a steady supply of fruits and vegetables. He emphasised that identifying the most frequently imported produce and making them available at reasonable prices would be a key step in lowering overall costs.
Further details on these measures are expected to be released as arrangements progress, with the Government committed to transparency in implementing these initiatives.
