More than 550 development projects are set to be launched across the Maldives in the coming two months, covering a wide range of infrastructure and community-focused initiatives.
The announcement was made in the first episode of Rayyithunaa Eku, a new podcast series launched by the President’s Office to enhance direct communication with the public.
During the episode, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu stated that the Government was committed to pushing forward development at a rapid pace and ensuring that the benefits are felt across all islands.
As part of the planned developments, every inhabited island in the Maldives is expected to receive a children’s park and a fitness centre within the next two years.
The President also spoke about the Government’s efforts to ease fuel prices for fishermen, a move intended to reduce operational costs and support the fishing community. The plan includes expanding access to fuel at State Trading Organization (STO) rates, with at least one island in every atoll designated to receive fuel at these subsidised prices.
This builds on a programme introduced late last year, where STO began offering fuel at discounted rates in four atolls, with expansion already planned for the rest of the country.
