A powerful 7.7-magnitude quake struck Myanmar near the city of Mandalay, with tremors felt across Thailand and as far as China. The disaster was followed by a strong 6.4-magnitude aftershock. Reports indicate that at least three people lost their lives after a mosque collapsed, and the death toll is expected to rise. Myanmar’s ruling military has confirmed multiple civilian casualties and injuries.

In response to the disaster, the Ministry is undertaking necessary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of Maldivian nationals in the affected regions. Through the Embassy of Maldives in Thailand, efforts are underway to provide assistance to Maldivians residing in Thailand.
