The Ministry of Health has awarded contracts for the development of four new hospitals and the expansion of healthcare facilities in 10 islands, in a significant nationwide effort to strengthen the health system.
The new hospitals will be built in Noonu Velidhoo, Shaviyani Milandhoo, Kaafu Thulusdhoo, and Alifu Alifu Rasdhoo, while Gaafu Alifu Villingili Hospital will undergo expansion. A new healthcare facility will also be constructed in Alifu Dhaalu Fenfushi, replacing the existing health centre.
Additionally, expansion projects have been assigned for existing health centres in Baa Kudarikilu, Gaafu Alifu Kondey, Gaafu Dhaalu Nadellaa, and Haa Dhaalu Nellaidhoo.
Funded through the State budget with a cost of MVR 760 million, the projects have been awarded to three key Government-owned companies: the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), FENAKA Corporation Limited, and the Road Development Corporation (RDC).
MTCC has been tasked with developing the hospitals in Milandhoo, Thulusdhoo, and Rasdhoo, as well as the expansion of Villingili Hospital and Nellaidhoo Health Centre. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rtd) Ahmed Saudee, Managing Director of MTCC, signed the agreement on behalf of the company, while State Minister Ahmed Gasim signed on behalf of the Ministry of Health.
FENAKA Corporation will carry out the expansion of health centres in Kudarikilu, Kondey, and Nadellaa. The agreement was signed by Managing Director Major (Rtd) Mohamed Najah for FENAKA and State Minister Ismail Abdulla for the Ministry of Health.
The development of the Velidhoo Hospital and a new health care facility in Fenfushi was awarded to RDC, with Managing Director Brigadier General (Rtd) Ali Zuhair signing on behalf of the company. The Ministry of Health was represented by State Minister Ismail Abdulla.
The State Budget allocates substantial funding for the development of the health sector, offering renewed hope for equitable access to quality healthcare services across the Maldives.
