President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has designated 325.5 hectares of Haa Alifu Kelaa’s lagoon for two new resorts, supporting tourism-driven economic growth.

Aligned with his commitment to promoting economic development, the President aims to drive growth by expanding the tourism sector and enhancing investment opportunities.

This decision was formalised through amendments to Presidential Decree No. 07/2025, issued on Saturday, under the Decentralisation Act. The Act grants the President the authority to allocate specific areas for City and Island Councils.

Consequently, an updated administrative chart of Kelaa Island has been officially codified and published in the Government Gazette. This initiative is anticipated to strengthen the region’s tourism infrastructure.
