President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially designated Hulhimendhoo Island as part of Maamendhoo Island, located in Gaafu Alifu Atoll.

This decision, which represents a significant administrative development, was formalised through a Presidential Decree issued on Saturday, in accordance with the Decentralisation. This legal provision grants the President the authority to designate areas falling under the jurisdiction of City and Island Councils.

Following this integration, the official chart of Maamendhoo Island has been revised and published in the Government Gazette, thereby ensuring legal recognition of the newly established territorial boundaries. This administrative measure is anticipated to enhance governance efficiency and streamline local administrative processes.
