The Maldives Police Service has held groundbreaking ceremonies for the construction of police stations in six islands of Huvadhu Atoll.

The ceremonies took place on Saturday in Gemanafushi and Villingili in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, and in Gadhdhoo, Vaadhoo, Faresmaathodaa, and Madaveli in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau laid the foundation stones at separate events held in each island. He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry, senior police officers, island council members, and representatives from various local institutions.

The Government has launched a special project aimed at establishing purpose-built police stations across all inhabited islands of the Maldives. As part of this project, the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and Road Development Corporation (RDC) will each oversee the construction of police stations in 21 islands, while FENAKA Corporation Limited will be responsible for 41 islands, bringing the total to 83 islands.

The comprehensive project includes the development of regional and atoll-level police service buildings, the establishment and resumption of police services in islands, and the construction of police posts and accommodation blocks to support effective policing.
