The Maldives Zakat House has announced that Zakat al-Fitr contributions have reached a record high this year, totalling MVR 13.2 million. This marks a 5.3 per cent increase compared to 2024, when MVR 12.5 million was collected.
According to Zakat House data, the largest share of this year’s contributions came through the Bank of Maldives, with MVR 7.3 million collected. Maldives Islamic Bank collected MVR 1.2 million, while FahiPay and BandeyriPay facilitated MVR 1 million and MVR 0.8 million respectively. Contributions through island and city councils amounted to MVR 1.8 million, and collections at Zakat House counters totalled MVR 0.5 million. Additionally, Dhiraagu and Ooredoo contributed, with MVR 0.4 million and MVR 0.1 million respectively.
This year also marks the first time Zakat al-Fitr funds have been distributed equally across all registered recipients in the national low-income and orphans registry. Each eligible individual received MVR 4,500, in line with the Government’s commitment to ensuring fairness in Zakat distribution.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and the Maldives Zakat House have been actively working to strengthen the Zakat system and increase public awareness. The establishment of Zakat House has enabled more structured and transparent management of Zakat funds.
