The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has launched a new ferry service between Malé and Kudagiri, a popular picnic island near the capital.

In a press release, MTCC stated that the new route aims to strengthen the transport network and improve access to Kudagiri, particularly during festive periods. The service officially began today, Sunday, with special schedules arranged for the Eid al-Fitr holidays.

During the Eid break, ferry trips will operate similarly to weekend services. Departures from Malé are scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., while return trips from Kudagiri will take place between 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Outside the Eid period, regular ferry services will be available on weekends from Henveiru Ferry Terminal. Ferries will depart Malé at 6:30 a.m., 8:00 a.m., and 9:30 a.m., with return journeys from Kudagiri at 4:00 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 7:00 p.m.

The one-way journey between Kudagiri and Malé takes approximately 35 minutes. Tickets are priced at MVR 70 per person.
