A dazzling drone show and fireworks display illuminated the skies over Hulhumalé last evening as part of the Eid-al-Fitr celebrations.

Organised by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the event took place at Central Park and lasted for 30 minutes, drawing a large crowd of spectators eager to witness the festivities.

The drone show featured a series of breathtaking formations, depicting scenes related to Islam, Maldivian culture, and key HDC symbols. One of the most poignant moments of the evening was the formation of the Palestinian flag in the shape of a heart, a powerful symbol of solidarity with the wider Muslim community. As the display concluded, a spectacular fireworks show lit up the night sky, adding an extra layer of excitement and further enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.

The Eid-al-Fitr festivities officially commenced the previous night across 64 islands, including the capital, Malé, which was beautifully illuminated for the occasion. Continuing a tradition from last year, Malé and atoll capitals have been adorned with decorative lights, while two of the most populous islands in each atoll have been specially decorated to mark the celebration.

As part of the nationwide festivities, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) organised a variety of child-friendly activities at Republic Square, Sultan Park, and the Friday Mosque area, drawing large crowds. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and his family actively participated in the events, engaging with children and taking part in games.

This year’s Eid celebrations align with President Dr Muizzu’s commitment to making the holiday more vibrant and engaging. This year and the previous year, a series of well-organised events have been held to mark the occasion, bringing communities together and spreading joy across the Maldives.

Attendees expressed their delight at the festivities, highlighting how such events foster a sense of unity and strengthen family bonds.
