Families in Malé City gathered in large numbers on Sunday evening to celebrate Eid Haveeru 1446, a vibrant community event held across Sultan Park, Republic Square, and the area surrounding the Islamic Centre.

Organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), and the Maldives Police Service, the event featured a variety of cultural showcases, games, and entertainment activities designed to engage children and families.

Highlights included traditional demonstrations of Maldivian customs, appearances by popular fictional characters, and interactive booths. Children also had the opportunity to explore police and MNDF vehicles, ride in them, and take photographs, offering a hands-on experience into the country’s service institutions. The Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation added to the excitement with gaming booths, a fusion performance show, and water sports at Republic Square.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed visited the festivities and spent time greeting families and exchanging Eid wishes. In an interview with MMTV, the President described the event as joyful and noted the First Lady’s appreciation of the cheerful, family-oriented atmosphere.

Adding a special touch to the evening, the President joined a large cake-cutting ceremony at the Izzuddin Jetty with many children in attendance.

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef also took part in the evening’s activities, mingling with families and joining in the celebrations.
