A woman who sustained critical injuries in a recent fire in Alifu Alifu Rasdhoo has passed away while receiving treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).  

The 31-year-old woman, who sustained severe burns covering 83 per cent of her body, passed away at 7:17 p.m. while on ventilator support on March 31, 2025.

Her husband remains in critical condition on ventilator support, with 78 per cent of his body affected. A foreign specialised burn treatment team was brought on Friday to treat the victims.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the fire. Maldives Police Service reported receiving information about the fire at 11:15 p.m. on March 24 and confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
