President Dr Mohamed Muizzu expressed gratitude to all participants who organised the vibrant Eid al-Fitr celebrations that brought joy to children and families across the Maldives.
In a post on X, the President specifically acknowledged the contributions of sixteen government entities: Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, Maldives Police Service, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), State Trading Organisation (STO), Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), Maldives Airports Company (MACL), Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO), State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), Road Development Corporation (RDC), Housing Development Corporation (HDC), and Public Service Media (PSM).
The festivities, which began as a one-day event, were extended for two additional days following an extraordinary public turnout. The celebrations spread across Sultan Park, Republic Square, and the area surrounding the Islamic Centre in Malé.
President Dr Muizzu initiated the island decorations and colourful light installations that have become a hallmark of the festivities. This marked the first time in recent history that Eid al-Fitr has been celebrated so elaborately in the capital.
Both the President and First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed participated actively in the celebrations, visiting stalls, greeting families, and exchanging Eid wishes with attendees.
The events featured a rich variety of cultural showcases, games, and entertainment for all ages, including traditional Maldivian customs demonstrations, interactive booths, and appearances by popular fictional characters. Children could explore police and MNDF vehicles while enjoying rides throughout the venues.
Light decorations illuminated many islands including Malé, Hulhumalé, and Vilimalé. The celebrations also featured cultural sports activities, kite flying and a drone show at Central Park.
