Team “Keiynulavaa” triumphs in Kulhudhuffushi City’s Kambalunge Mas Race

Team “Keiynulavaa” has secured first place in the Kambalunge Mas Race organised by the Kulhudhuffushi City Women's Development Committee (WDC).

The tournament saw participation from 16 teams, comprising women from various age groups.

The festival, which took place from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Eid al-Fitr, concluded with the team “Keiynulavaa” emerging victorious after catching a total of 174.75 kg of fish. The team 'Giyolhu' finished in second place with 149.10 kg, while 'Sharaf' secured third place with a catch of 98.2 kg.

The results of the competition were announced in an energetic atmosphere, with cultural performances held between 8:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. in the designated fishing area. The awards ceremony took place at the port, where top-performing teams and individuals were recognised for their achievements.

In addition to team awards, several individual accolades were presented. Lubna Hasan from 'Giyolhu' was awarded for her exceptional fishing skills after securing 41 fish for her team, while Shahida Mohamed from 'Sharaf' was recognised for catching the heaviest fish, weighing 6.6 kg. The competition also celebrated the youngest and oldest participants. 15-year-old Aishath Isha Ashraf was named the youngest competitor after catching 13 fish, and 69-year-old Aminath Ali from 'Rehendi' was honoured as the most capable fisherwoman in the senior category.

Mayor of Kulhudhuffushi City Council, Mohamed Athif, awarded medals, trophies, and prizes to the winning team. Other members of the City Council and the WDC also presented awards to the distinguished participants.

The Kulhudhuffushi City WDC explained that the competition, originally intended to be held on Women's Day, had to be rescheduled due to Ramadan. The committee further expressed its commitment to making next year’s Mas Race an even more successful and well-organised event.
