Fenaka Corporation has begun operating a newly installed 1.8 MW generator in Addu City as part of ongoing efforts to address the region’s power supply challenges.

The generator, sourced from India, arrived in the city on Thursday night and was swiftly installed and serviced by Fenaka’s technical team, who worked continuously to ensure its timely operation.

Addu City has been grappling with frequent power outages due to extensive damage to the majority of the 19 generators in use. The deterioration of these generators has been attributed to inadequate maintenance and overhauling during the previous administration. When the current Government assumed office, the condition of power plants across the country was reported to be poor, prompting urgent intervention.

The Government has prioritised resolving the power crisis in Addu City, with the aim of ensuring a stable electricity supply for at least the next five years. Fenaka has confirmed that addressing this issue remains its primary focus at present.

In addition to deploying the new generator, the Government is collaborating with Fenaka to import essential spare parts required for repairing damaged engines across the nation. The broader objective is to guarantee an uninterrupted 24-hour power supply to all regions of the country, improving reliability and efficiency in electricity distribution.
