President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has departed for the United Kingdom to officially launch a Maldives tourism promotion campaign in collaboration with Liverpool Football Club.
The visit was made at the invitation of the Chief Executive Officer of Liverpool FC and marks the start of a co-branded promotional initiative between the Maldives and the globally renowned football club. The campaign is being jointly carried out with the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and Visit Maldives.
This multi-year global partnership, first announced in early March, is expected to play a key role in promoting the Maldives as a premier travel destination by leveraging Liverpool FC’s vast international fanbase and global visibility.
During his visit, President Dr Muizzu is expected to meet with Maldivian students in the United Kingdom and is scheduled to visit the AXA Training Centre, where he is set to observe how professional football training and coaching are conducted. The President Office stated that the aim of the visit is to explore the possibility of introducing high-performance training programmes in the Maldives.
The President is also scheduled to visit his alma mater, the University of Leeds, as well as Leeds Town Hall. Additionally, he is expected to meet with the Leeds City Councillor during the visit.
Meanwhile, members of the Maldivian delegation are scheduled to meet with senior officials from Red Way and the LFC Academy to discuss potential joint marketing efforts and promotional activities.
President Dr Muizzu is accompanied by Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu, MMPRC Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree, and other senior Government officials.
He is scheduled to return to Malé on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
