The Maldives is set to host a distinguished international forum dedicated to promoting integrity within the tourism industry and addressing corruption.

The Saudi-Maldives International Forum on Integrity is scheduled to take place at Villa Nautica Resort from May 6 to 7, bringing together policymakers, industry experts, and leaders from across the Islamic world to engage in meaningful dialogue on this critical issue.

Jointly organised by the Maldives Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority of Saudi Arabia, the Saudi-Maldives International Forum on Integrity will focus on developing and implementing innovative tools and strategies to combat corruption in the tourism sector—an industry that serves as a cornerstone of the Maldivian economy.

According to Fathimath Ibna, Director of Prevention at ACC, the forum is expected to welcome representatives from 50 member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Among the prominent speakers are Maldives ACC President Adam Shamil and President of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority of Saudi Arabia, Mazin bin Ibrahim Al-Kahmous, alongside other esteemed officials and experts.

The event will be structured into multiple sessions, each designed to address challenges associated with corruption in the tourism industry while exploring practical and effective solutions.

Experts from Interpol, the World Bank, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will provide in-depth insights into anti-corruption mechanisms, transparency initiatives, and regulatory frameworks aimed at ensuring accountability in tourism-related transactions. Additionally, a special panel discussion organised by UNDP will convene leading international specialists to exchange best practices and discuss strategies for strengthening anti-corruption efforts.

Given the significant contribution of tourism to the Maldivian economy, ensuring transparency and integrity within the sector is essential for fostering sustainable economic growth. Ibna stated that the forum will serve as a crucial platform for strengthening collaboration among Islamic nations, facilitating the exchange of expertise, and enhancing anti-corruption initiatives across various sectors.

The Saudi-Maldives International Forum on Integrity is open to both in-person and virtual participation, providing broader access to discussions on this pressing global issue. Interested individuals may register via the official website (https://registration.ifi.org.mv), where additional information, including the event agenda, is available.
