President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has emphasised the importance of valuing and supporting autistic children, affirming that every child holds significance and contributes to the nation.
In a message shared on X to mark World Autism Awareness Day on April 2, 2025, he highlighted the unique skills and contributions of autistic individuals and urged society to embrace them with love, care, and support.
The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Maldives also took to X to reaffirm its commitment to promoting neurodiversity, stressing that fostering acceptance and inclusion is essential to building a healthier and more equitable society.
In the post, the Ministry emphasised the importance of ensuring equal opportunities for autistic individuals, aligning with the global theme for World Autism Awareness Day 2025, "Advancing Neurodiversity and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)."
This year’s focus reinforces the urgency of improving access to education that accommodates different learning styles, creating employment opportunities that recognise the strengths of autistic individuals, ensuring equitable healthcare services, and fostering greater societal acceptance through awareness and advocacy.
The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aim to ensure that no one is left behind, including neurodivergent individuals, making the advancement of neurodiversity a step towards achieving these objectives.
