In a recent episode of the Rayyithunnaa Eku podcast, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu revealed that the Children's Emergency Room (ER) at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has provided medical care to 10,393 paediatric patients since its inauguration in November of the preceding year. 

Speaking in the second episode of the series, the President elaborated on the Government’s efforts to enhance the nation’s healthcare infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on paediatric medical services. He highlighted the significance of the Children's ER as an initiative aimed at improving both the accessibility and quality of emergency healthcare for children.

The President stated that the Children's ER has not only significantly enhanced the quality and efficiency of paediatric emergency care but has also alleviated excessive patient load in the primary ER at IGMH. Prior to the operationalisation of this dedicated unit, paediatric patients were treated alongside adults within the general emergency department, leading to congestion and delays in the delivery of critical medical interventions.

Since the introduction of specialised emergency services for paediatric patients under the age of 16, the facility has provided urgent medical attention to over 10,000 young individuals, thereby substantially reducing pressure on the main ER and optimising emergency response capabilities. The establishment of a dedicated paediatric emergency unit has facilitated a structured and efficient treatment protocol, ensuring the prompt and appropriate provision of medical care for both paediatric and adult patients.

Furthermore, the president emphasised that the Children's ER forms an integral part of the Government’s endeavour to modernise and expand the national healthcare system. As a critical component of this initiative, the Administration has undertaken the comprehensive restoration of Dharumavantha Hospital, a facility that had remained non-operational under the previous Administration. The introduction of a dedicated paediatric ER at Dharumavantha Hospital represents a significant milestone in the expansion of specialised paediatric healthcare services, further enhancing access to critical medical care across the nation.
