The Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage has announced the inclusion of the historic Kandhili Mosque in Alifu Dhaalu Maamigili on the official list of national heritage sites.

According to Minister Adam Naseer Ibrahim, the decision was made in consultation with the Maamigili Council.

The Ministry noted that the mosque is distinguished by its high-quality coral stone craftsmanship, a hallmark of traditional Maldivian architecture.

Believed to have been constructed in the 1700s, the mosque complex includes a prayer hall, a cemetery, and a water well. The structure is built on a raised coral stone platform with moulded edges and features intricately carved coral stone walls. While the walls display detailed workmanship, the mosque's roof and ceiling are simple and undecorated.

The building has undergone several restorations and renovations over the years.
