A launch docked at the harbour in Alifu Alifu Himandhoo was destroyed in a fire early Friday morning, according to local authorities.

The incident was reported to the Maldives Police Service at approximately 5:50 am. With the support of local residents, the Police and the Himandhoo Island Council worked together to bring the fire under control by around 6:26 am.

At the time of the incident, the launch had a captain, two crew members, and a minor on board. No serious injuries have been reported.

The vessel, which had a capacity of fifty people, was reportedly used for regular travel between Alifu Alifu Maalhos, Himandhoo, and Feridhoo. Authorities confirmed that the launch was completely destroyed by the fire and later sank.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and an investigation is currently underway.
