All students across the Maldives will receive their textbooks before the new academic year begins, according to State Minister of Education Hussain Saeed.

In an exclusive interview with MMTV, State Minister Saeed said the Ministry is actively working with various institutions to ensure the timely distribution of books. He noted that preparations for textbook distribution began a month ago and assured that all students would have their materials before schools reopen.

He also addressed ongoing concerns about teacher shortages, stating that every school will now have a sufficient number of teachers in place for the upcoming term.

“All preparations needed for the new academic year are complete,” he said, adding that current efforts are focused on securing funds to carry out repairs in schools that require maintenance.

The State Minister further highlighted that school placements have been guaranteed for all students, including those residing in the second phase of Hulhumalé, resolving a previous issue of limited space.

Students began their holidays on February 25 at the end of the last academic year, while this year’s holiday coincided with Ramadan. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has since requested that the Education Ministry ensure the annual major school holiday continues to align with Ramadan in the future.

The new academic year is set to begin on April 7 and will end on December 28.
