The Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works has requested city and island councils to begin removing Eid lighting, decorative arches, and sound systems following the conclusion of the Eid Ali programme on Saturday night.
In a post via X, the Ministry urged councils to store the items carefully, noting that the decorations will continue to be used for future occasions.
The Eid Ali programme, held to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, is the first national initiative of its kind to light up islands in celebration of Islamic holidays. Launched in 2024, the event initially focused on illuminating major cities. Due to the positive public response, this year's programme expanded to include 36 additional islands, including cities and two islands from each atoll.
This year’s lighting campaign began on the night of March 29, with coordination between the Ministry and local councils across the country.
Through its post, the Ministry also expressed gratitude to the island and city councils, as well as Government institutions, for their role in organising and executing the lighting displays.
